Never far
from a stiff gin and tonic, Don Kenny started his entertainment career
early in life. At age 12 he narrowly missed getting the lead role in
Broadway's musical stage production of "Beatlemania," the
producers deciding to pass because Don "looked more like Pete Best
than Ringo." A string of lucrative acting/singing jobs in TV commercials
followed, enabling the pre-teen Don to open a bank account, lose his
virginity to Suzanne Sommers, and cultivate a debilatating prescription
drug problem. After marrying and divorcing his 14 year-old cousin, Gerry
Lee Kenny, Don moved to New Orleans to ponder his life and procure stronger
prescriptions. It was there that he picked up a guitar for the first
time. He quickly put it back down again when he realized it was hard
to play and hold a drink at the same time.
